CBT Helps With Weight Loss And Maintenance
Through gathered study material and analysis on weight loss it is obvious that most obese people who have lost weight have gained it all back.As Cognitive Therapists, from our knowledge, the reason that this is happening is that dieters make such drastic lifestyle changes which are hard to sustain, such as eating too few calories, cutting out their favourite foods and not attending social events because there is food or they set unrealistic exercise goals.
They naturally return to their previous lifestyle and pick up all their weight again, if not more.To stop this from happening our Cognitive Therapists suggest reasonable and maintainable goals, dieters will lose the weight, it will be at a slower rate but it will be unlikely for them to pick it up again.
One of the dieters at Beck Institute For Cognitive Therapy disliked cooking, by using many different cognitive therapy techniques they helped her prioritize exercise and healthy eating and then did problem solving. Another dieter loved pizza and as we mentioned cutting out your favourite foods is something that dieters often do and cannot control. Becks Institute taught this dieter a combination of cognitive and behavioral skills to control his urges for pizza which decreased the chances of him gaining the lost weight again.
To conclude, drastic weight loss solutions that are not realistic and maintainable do not last for the long run, but if they are you are more likely not to regain the lost weight.
